Fair Compensation for Junior Doctors
On April 7, 2026, the Supreme Court took note of the disparity in stipends paid to medical interns across different states and private vs. government colleges. The petition filed by ADAMS argues for a 'Uniform Stipend Policy' as per National Medical Commission (NMC) standards.
The Bench observed that the workload of interns is intensive and varies little by location, making a case for standardized financial support. The Union of India and the NMC have been granted four weeks to file their counter-affidavits.
