Centre Notifies Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions) Rules, 2026 to Enhance Aviation Safety
By Regulatory Desk|06 April 2026
Enforcement of Height Restrictions
Published on April 6, 2026, the new rules provide a structured process for the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to issue notices to owners of buildings or trees that obstruct flight paths. If the owner fails to reduce the height within a specified period, the local district authorities are now mandated to carry out the demolition at the owner's expense.
The rules also introduce a 'Digital Sky' interface where developers can check height clearances before beginning construction, aiming to reduce future litigation and improve safety at critical runway approaches.
